Things to do in Siem Reap, Cambodia

Standard

I have to admit this, when we went backpacking Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand last February, I did not do much research. I did not make much plans. I just want to always surprise myself with things. Less knowledge ,less expectations, no frustrations. hahaha. For others this might not work, but for me a little bit of ignorance about certain things works pretty well.

Me at a our Tuktuk Service roaming around the temples of Angkor. I bought the hat and the harem pants at the stalls near the terrace of the elephants. =D

When we went to Siem Reap, all I can think about is just Angkor Wat. I thought to myself, I will be staying in the temple for one whole day just walking around and touching the details of the greatest religious megastructure in the face of this planet. (tears slowly rolling down on my cheeks.ahahaha ) I did not thought of what should I be doing there, where else should I go besides the Angkor Wat, coz for me, just being in that place is enough to make my Cambodia trip worth the travel.

We did not just went to Angkor Wat, We went to several temples in the Angkor. To kill time, we walked around the city area. Had Massage, ate at local restaurants and thought of going to their so-called “night market” just to kill time. It was pretty much walking distance from our guesthouse. After having footspa and massage, we dusted our foot again and wandered through the clean streets of Siem Reap.

To my surprise, we found flea market heaven. this Night market is one hell of a stringed cheap shops selling everything else. They Have Massage, Fish spa, Manicure and Pedicure Galore, souvenirs, artworks, Food and Booze.

They offer cheap services and souvenire items at the market. Surely you can haggle anything! even manicure. lol. Oh and as you can see, USD is widely accepted here, so no need to worry about the exchange rates and all. ATMs are everywhere too.

There is more to Siem Reap than just the Temples. When I was there, I actually thought of looking for a job there. The place is nice to live in. The people are very nice and down to earth. It is safe. They have the temples. =D when you are stressed out isn’t it nice to just run to the temples and meditate? Massage and food are cheap as well. Oh they have nice beaches too but we weren’t able to go there.

Oh, I have read that there are many English teaching jobs in the country. If you are interested, then you can try it! Volunteer If you have time to spare!

Oh how I adore their souvenir items here, especially their workmanship on their fridge magnets. We bought quite a lot of these actually. They are nice souvenirs for myself haha.

Aside from the temples, when you are around Siem Reap, you can enjoy the flea markets and the night life at Pub Market. If you don’t mind getting sweaty, Rent a bicycle and roam around the streets of the city. Try eating their local street foods and those fried Bugs.

dreaming of going back to Cambodia,
